Good Neighbours 50th Anniversary Party
110 people enjoyed a fantastic party at Houghend Police social club on Sunday September 3 to celebrate Chorlton Good Neighbours reaching its 50th birthday.
As well as a 3 course meal, attendees had a chance to win prizes galore through questions about what was happening 50 years ago and recognising photos of some of the volunteers and older people as young children.
Special guest speakers included Edith Lundy one of the original founders of the Group and the first Co Ordinator , Paul McGarry from Age Friendly Manchester, City Council, and Local councillor Mary Watson .
Volunteer Ray Woods led the toast, David Balderstone was DJ and Mary O’Mahoney read a poem about Friendship which her mother Rowena had written. A 3 tiered cake was made by Sarah, worker Moira’s daughter and volunteer Marc Grundy took plenty of photos.
The guest appearance of Mickie Mouse ensured a great time was had by all , and everyone went home with a goody bag, and “buzzing “ from such a huge event. Thanks very much to all who contributed and supported such a milestone birthday
