The LS Lowry tapes – a talk by Angela Bogg

Chorlton Good Neighbours History Group Zoom meeting starting at 1.30pm on Thurs Nov 5th

The interviews with LS Lowry, the artist, were recorded on audio tape by Angela Bogg at the artist’s house in the early 1970s when she was in her 20’s and Lowry in his 80s. Lowry died in Feb 1976, a few months after Angela’s last interview with him. He is buried in Southern Cemetery.( as we learnt from Emma Fox on a previous talk )

The recordings, all 20 hours of them, were to form part of Angela’s MA thesis, but she didn’t use them and the tapes had been stored in the loft for over 40 years, until recently when they were converted  to digital format

In his lifetime Laurence Stephen Lowry produced around 1000 paintings and 8000 drawings. Though fame came to him only late in his life, his paintings can now sell for large sums. His 1949 work ‘The Football Match’ sold for £5.6m in 2011.

In this Zoom talk, Angela will reflect on her meetings with Lowry and will share audio snippets of her conversations with Lowry and show the paintings that he refers to
