The history of Trafford Park & Metropolitan Vickers
The talk will start with the de Trafford family’s sale of the park to the fraudster Ernest Terah Hooley in 1898 and its subsequent development as the largest industrial park in Europe
‘Metrovics’ becane its largest company. It developed from the US Westinghouse Electrical Company (1903) and went on to produce state-of-the-art turbines, generators, and electrical equipment. I will describe its important role in WW2 and its subsequent decline in the 1980s
