Belle Vue – Manchester’s Lost Wonderland History talk, Thurs Jan 7th 2021

Dear All

Happy New Year to you all from Chorlton Good Neighbours.  I hope you have had a nice Christmas and enjoyed some walks in the sunshine .

As we are now in Tier 4, the on site sessions have been suspended ( the positive living and coffee support groups) for the time being .  Thank goodness though for Zoom , as at least we can still feel part of a group activity and keep our brain cells ticking over ! We resume also our Thursday zoom exercise session at 11.00am this week , so if you fancy having a go at that please let me know and I can send you the details

Here is the information you need in relation to our first history talk of the year

Belle Vue – Manchester’s Lost Wonderland

A Zoom presentation by Nakib Narat

Thursday January 7th 2021 starting 1.30pm

Access is via this Zoom link:

Meeting ID: 819 9028 5841
Passcode: 128605

There will be clips from old films and original photographs as part of a specially written, fun talk by our Drama Workshop Leader , Nakib Narat.  Belle Vue was closed nearly 50 years ago  but is very much in the hearts of Mancunians and former visitors from all over the UK. Many will remember the Circus, Theme Park, Zoo, evenings of dancing, music concerts and sports, like boxing & wrestling, greyhound racing and Speedway.

From the late 1920s until the outbreak of the Second World War, Belle Vue was “the boxing Mecca of Europe” and later a Greyhound stadium and speedway venue. A veritable “Wonderland” of family fun!  Belle Vue  has a history that goes back over 180 years and became hugely popular with a hundred thousand visitors a day until its decline in the 1970s. Come along and remember a special part of Manchester’s history and maybe share your own memories during the talk!

Please share the link to the talk with others, if you feel they might be interested .

Hope to see you then

Best wishes
