Ellen Wilkinson , Britain’s forgotten stateswoman

I hope you can join us for the first of our zoom history talks this year . Nakib Narat will be telling us about Ellen Wilkinson , Britain’s forgotten stateswoman , who , though born in grinding poverty in Manchester and only 4 ft 9 inches tall, was the world’s most influential woman in the 1930’s .  Ellen was a novelist, MP and Cabinet Minister. She organised women into trade unions, provided job security and sickness benefits , led the Jarrow March to London and helped found UNESCO. Alongside this she had affairs with men like Mandelson’s grandfather Peter Morrison- and Otto Katz- Stalin’s man in Europe…..and lots more interesting facts to learn .
