Exploring the Rich History of Manchester Cathedral and Chetham’s School & Library

An in-depth look at the history of Manchester Cathedral and the closely linked Chetham’s School and Library. This Zoom presentation to the CGN History Group is the second in a series of talks on Grade 1 Listed buildings in Manchester, UK, with the first focusing on Manchester Town Hall (https://youtu.be/Lf2H5KhVRJc).

Discover the rich history of these iconic landmarks and learn about the important role they played in shaping the city. We will also see DALL-E generated images of Marx and Engels sitting in a Chetham’s Library alcove, where they are said to have researched and written The Communist Manifesto. As the oldest free public library in the English-speaking world, Chetham’s Library is a true gem of Manchester’s history, captured in a style reminiscent of Vedrneer or even David Hockney’s paintings
