PUNCH AND JUDY – TALK BY REV IAN MUTTON
At the Chorlton History group meeting on Thurs Dec 6th 2012, the Reverend Ian Mutton gave a talk on the theme of “The Gospel According to Punch & Judy”. In this he explained the history of punch and judy and in particular its links with the medieval mystery plays.
The Reverend Ian W. Mutton was a retired minister in the Methodist Church. He served for many years within the Sheffield Methodist District—specifically within the Doncaster Circuit. [1, 2]
Outside of his standard ministerial duties, he was locally known in the North West of England for delivering unique historical and community talks, such as his presentation on “The Gospel According to Punch & Judy” given at the Chorlton History Group. [1]
The Doncaster Methodist Circuit announced his passing in early 2024, and his life and ministry were formally commemorated during the Representative Session at the British Methodist Conference in July 2024
