Helen Hibberd’s Chorlton Community Champion Award

Chorlton Civic Society

Community Champion Award for Helen Hibberd

The Community Champions Award recognise significant, lasting and positive contributions made to the Chorlton Community, whether by individuals or groups based in Chorlton.

For over 40 years Helen was the manager at Chorlton Good Neighbours. In her work she has supported countless numbers of older residents looking for friendship and support. She organised trips out, coffee mornings, arts and craft classes, drama sessions, singing groups, exercise classes, Sunday Teas and much, much more.

Helen was excellent at recruiting and supporting volunteers. She would encourage them to take on activities such as befriending isolated older people who they could visit and support.  All this required organising, understanding and hard graft such as lifting the chairs, tables, and equipment in preparation for activities such as History talks and the famous coffee mornings

Helen is known for her smile, her laughter and her friendly welcome to all. This has been appreciated by older people, family members, volunteers and all the many professionals who came into her orbit. You only have to see Helen at a crowded Coffee morning to see how popular she is. She has made a significant and lasting contribution to the older people of Chorlton, showing imagination, inspirational leadership and impressive organisational skills. Helen has recently left

Chorlton Good Neighbour, but the work that she undertook and the positive difference she made to the lives of people in Chorlton, lives on.
